Jimmy Hall invited Marty Snyderman and I to come over to the North Shore of Oahu and go out on his boat for a shark dive.Jimmy gave us the option of bringing our scuba gear and if we felt safe getting out of the shark cage, well it was up to us. Feb. on the North Shore can be pretty rough and the day we were to go out the surf was huge the wind was blowing and it was cloudy and rainy but we were short on time so off we went. We jumped in the cage with our scuba gear but the cage floats on the surface and with the rough conditions we were bouncing around in the cage and trying to film the sharks was nearly impossible in those conditions.
Marty decided to open the door of the cage and push me out to see what
would happen. The sharks were right on top of me until I swam down and
a little ways away from the cage and then I had a chance to shoot up towards the surface and the back of the boat which was great in the clear blue water. We had between 25-30 Galapagos sharks and 5-6 Sandbar sharks cruising around the back of the boat and the shark cage giving us the opportunity to shoot some great shots. Jimmy is unfortunately no longer with us but he lived his life to the fullest and shared his adventurous infectious spirit with all of us that knew him. If your in Oahu and you want to shark dive visit http://www.hawaiisharkencounters.com/
the trip to the North shore is definitely worth it.
